The Sirago 17 was created in 1992 by Chris Reid as 4-track/bedroom band. His then girlfriend/now wife Elli handled vocals while Chris did the music. The idea was to create music using the following formula: Cocteau Twins X Spacemen 3 + Stereolab ± Flaming Lips “Bedspins (Mustang Version)” was included on the 1995 Tooth & Nail Records compilation Art Core Volume One. One year and 2 months later, they released a double cassette EP called Sunshine, which featured as its centerpiece the 15 minute long hybrid of “You Are My Sunshine” and Spacemen 3’s “Suicide.” From late 1996 to late 1999, nothing new was released “officially.” 1996 and 1997 saw the recording of a few new original songs and several cover songs. There were a couple of compilation tapes made for submission to Space Age Recordings in England (Sonic Boom from Spacemen 3’s label). There were discussions, but nothing ultimately happened. A proposed “new age” album was recorded at a cabin in Kings Canyon (including the sounds of a stream, roaring fire, wind, and chirping birds in the background), but only a couple of tracks were ever finished. In 1999, they began digitizing their cassettes for release on CDR. Nothing much was done with them once finished. In 2009, Chris began remastering The Sirago 17 music directly from the original 4-tracks. He plans to release them via RottingAmerica.com as mp3s and perhaps FLACs in 2010. In 2010, Chris Reid and Pablo Rossetti have begun a new phase of music using the S17 name. It's a good name. There has been one rehearsal. 2 cover songs were very nearly played. More to come. In 2011, Chris Reid and Pablo Rossetti will play live. In 2016, Chris played solo twice. Once at a benefit, and once opening for David J. -Chris Reid |
